All things random: Heath, Air, Yael, Spears

Random as chaos theory….

First and foremost, RIP Heath Ledger. It’s is so shockingly sad that he passed away so unexpectedly yesterday. The entire office was buzzing as soon as the news broke. IM’s, email, MTV News, CNN, ABC, CBS, Gawker, Perez were all over it. I really don’t think he committed suicide even though there are reports that he had slipped into depression and had taken to sleeping pills due to his issues. I really can’t speculate much more than that as I didn’t know him personally, even though he and Michelle Williams lived my Boerum Hill neighborhood when they were together. But I did like him as an actor. He was a great actor in all his roles, the teen fluff (10 Things I Hate About You) to serious (The Patriot) and brave (Brokeback Mountain) roles.

He was young, hot, sexy and oh so talented. It kind of reminds me of the whole River Phoenix overdose back when I was but a wee little girl. I LOVED him. I was so sad. And I am sad over Heath. My prayers go out to his family, friends, Michelle Williams and most of all, his adorable little girl, Matilda.

So as I was scouring the web trying to find out what the results of the autopsy were (inconclusive), the MacBook Air commercial came on. Now, I am dying (oops!) to get my hands on this baby. While I don’t think it’s going to fit my needs, I do think it’s mad cool. If I had extra $ laying around, I might get one just because, but I find it somewhat impractical as your sole computing device. But it is cool. I will just wait for he next update on the Pro line. Anyway…where was I. Oh yes..the commercial.

Apple, or who ever is producing the commercials, has quite a fine tuned ear. They always go perfectly with what ever it is they are trying to sell. All the commercials fit into this great continuity but giving each product their own identity. Genius! The music they use is always catchy and it’s great that they are introducing these lesser knows artists into the mainstream. More Genius! No less genius is the use of the particular song for the Air commercial. After a quick Google, I found out that the song is “New Soul” by Yael Naim. It is perfect for introducing their new Air…a new soul is born….ahhhhh. So of course I jumped on iTunes..errr…Limewire and found some other songs by this artist.

Now here’s where it gets good and made me smile. The Paris born Israeli does a cover of Unfitney’s Toxic! Now I’m not much of a Brit Brit fan, but I did like Toxic quite a bit. Well produced. I don’t care what you say. Anyway, so in the live version I found, she really does bring a different element to this song. It’s beautifully haunting the way she sings it. And in listening to her other songs, she has a wonderful voice that reminds me of a pop-ier version of Amel Larrieux. So I’ll officially be paying for some of her albums soon.

And so now I’m thinking about Britney frickin’ spears, reading Perez Hilton (love) and wondering when the court is going to give up and take all of her parental rights away. I never thought I’d say it but I feel sorry for K.Fed! She is just crazy. She needs to be committed or jailed or something for her and everyone elses good. And so now with the Heath Ledger death, I’m wondering (and yes…this is about to sound massively cruel), “I wonder when Britney is gonna die?” Now now…I’m not wishing the girl to die or anything, but what she’s doing right now. just like Amy Winehouse, is the kind of behaviour that leads to some kind of tragedy. Right? Like, none of us would be shocked or surprised if she drove off a cliff or didn’t wake up one morning…

and bringing it all full circle….

…like when Heath Ledger didn’t wake up.

So what did we learn today?

If you can’t sleep, take Melatonin.
Apple is the BEST
Yael Naim is my new favorite
Britney Spears need to get a grip on reality
We’re very very sad about Heath

side note: the new Batman movie where Heath plays the Joker is going to be the biggest movie of the year.
