The Race in ’08
Iowa was a bit of a surprise, I must say. Iowa *hearts* Huckabee? Hillary in 3rd? Biden drops out? Richardson didn’t?
The claws are coming out and blood is starting to show. Tonight, ABC aired the New Hampshire Debates. 2 Parties, 1 Night. And yes, I watched the whole damn thing. I feel so grown up.
Up first, the Republicans. A few of them need to drop out. Romney’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. He wants to deport 12 million illegal immigrants. He’s an idiot. All Rudy ever talked about was 9/11 and terrorism. New Yorkers hate you. Thompson…you’re no Regan or Arnold for that matter. You are too right wing even for this crowd. And Ron Paul…you just sound crazy. Though I find you entertaining as hell so keep on keepin’ on. If someone put a gun top my head and told me to vote for a Republican, I guess it would be McCain.
Clearly, I lean to the left so let’s move on.
I am really really disappointed that Biden dropped out of the race. I thought he would at least beat Richardson in Iowa. He’s an amazing policy maker, speaker, etc. But maybe not just enough of a politician. Boo. Hopefully, who ever becomes POTUS will nominate him to be Secretary of State. That would be a smart move I think. So we’re down to 1 white male in the running for the Democratic nominee for President.
But lets get to the meat of it. In the first part of the Democratic Debate, they spoke of nuclear proliferation, universal health care and change. Oh boy. Who knew CHANGE would be the trigger for the first big heat up.
Edwards chose to join Barack in attacking Hillary on the change platform stating that because he and Obama won 1st & 2nd in Iowa, she was becoming hostile towards them in their attempt to CHANGE and she was just the status quo. You could see the steam rising form Hillary’s face. And she pounced back with the list of things she has just talked about changing, but actually did change. Get ‘em Hillary!!!
It’s true. She has been a champion of change for many years. She has made change. While I like Barack Obama very much and I think he would be a great president someday, I still kind of feel like I don’t know what he can actually do. He’s an amazing motivator and inspirational speaker. He can motivate the masses. But I feel that I need a President who know the ins and out of the system WHILE trying to make it better.
And on the subject of likability…Hillary’s feelings were a bit hurt by the comment that New Hampshire polls showed that Edwards and Obama were deemed likable. But she was deemed electable and experienced so don’t feel too hurt Hill. She also pointed out that the American people elected the current Pres. that they wanted to have a beer with. And that didn’t turn out so well.
And because I’m a woman and she’s a woman, I have to say that if she were a man, her tough exterior would be a non-issue. If she were any softer, she would be just that. Soft.
The boys want to play tough and Hill can play tough. She can dish it out and she can take it. Just don’t hold it against her when she does.
Ok. Well, I guess you know who I’m voting for.
Obama did speak on how motivating the people can cause change. This is true. Hillary can be polarizing. People who hate her, really hate her. Obama, as I said before, is an amazing and charismatic leader. Much in the way JFK was.
But to be blunt, I just want someone who I know is taking care of business in that office. The reason I became interested in politics is because I lost confidence in the government. When Bill was POTUS, I didn’t pay much attention because I knew he was getting things done. At the end of the day, I just want to go back to living a happy life and let the government do it’s job.
