There’s a new Mayer in town

So on a recent trip to Los Angeles, I got a chance to catch up with some friends I hadn’t seen in quite a while. I always feel very lucky that I have friends with great taste in music who expose me to new sounds when I don’t have a chance to stay in the musical loop.

On a last minute outing to Orange Country to see the Funky Prez J.Rocc DJ at a spot in Orange Country, we stopped in to say hello to PB Wolf. I had no idea what I was in for. Just a few minutes after we arrived, the curtains rose to a wonderful little stage and there stood a Doo-Wop looking band. I didn’t even know there was going to be a performance. This should be interesting. Nope. It was effing great!

Mayer Hawthorne and the County had their first performance at The Continental Room on Feb. 17th and I was serendipitously there to see it. It was good music. Good stage presence. Amazing energy. While the 50′s Doo-Wop schtick is all the rage in the music industry, few do a great job of pulling it off. Mayer Hawthorne has wonderful production (he’s also a DJ and producer) and catchy lyrics without being cheesy. Or perhaps just cheesy enough to get you singing along and attempting a Four Tops spin. Do yourself a favor and jump on the Mayer bandwagon ASAP. The album drops this summer on Stones Throw.
