“The Deadly Affair” Soundtrack

Everyone knows that Quincy Jones is a genius. What most people don’t know is that Quincy Jones also scored a lot of movies. One of his great scores is for a movie called “The Deadly Affair” by Sidney Lumet.

It’s truly an amazing piece of work that stands on its own without the film but in turn adds to the mystery & mystique of it. It’s a piece of music that any jazz lover must own. These are 2 of my favorite tracks…though it must be said that that’s a hard thing to pick from this album.

It’s a LOVELY day in Brooklyn!

It’s a truly lovely day in NYC…it’s above 70 degrees, people are leaving the office early to frolic in the sun, girls are getting pedicures, kids are skipping school…it just doesn’t get better than this. I, with allergy meds in hand, have spent an amazing day walking around my hood sipping iced coffee, lounging on random benches, exploring small parks and dodging strollers.

So in honor of this lovely day…(this is from a Top of the Pops performance in ’88…complete w/ scratching)

New Mayer Hawthorne & OSJOTD

2 things on the music agenda today. First, if you haven’t already heard Mayer Hawthorne, then you are missing out. The newest addition to the Stones Throw roster has me twisted in all kinds of loving feelings. I was first introduced to him in a recent trip to LA where I serendipitously ended up at his first performance. His new single, “Maybe So, Maybe No” is ready to drop in May but the good folks at Stones Throw are letting it out into the interwebs:
