Saving OurSelves – Help for Haiti Telethon

Saving OurSelves - Help for Haiti Telethon

I’m coming of one of the toughest show I’ve ever done. I was at lunch with my mentor/Exec Producer on Jan. 14. While we were catching up, she answered a phone call from BET and they wanted her to help put on a Haiti telethon for Feb 5th…in Miami. That was just 3 weeks away. Yikes.

We immediately started working, she hired one of my fave Line Producers and we began to work – budgeting, holding staff/crew, researching hotels and sourcing equipment, rentals, everything. Under normal circumstances, this show would take 2-3 months of planning. We had 3 weeks. Less if you take into consideration that we didn’t get an “official” green light until 6pm on Jan. 20.

Movie of the Year (2009) – 500 Days of Summer

Movie of the Year (2009) - 500 Days of Summer

Hands down, my favorite movie of 2009 is “500 Days of Summer.” (Full length trailer at bottom of post.)

I realize this movie is up against serious competition but it’s a personal choice based on how many times I think I would be able to watch the movie in the years to come. For me, it’s right up there with High Fidelity, Princess Bride & Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I can watch these movies over and over and never get tired of them.

Keys + Colbert = best. ish. eva

Seriously…I love the Daily Show with Jon Stewart but Colbert just effing KILLS it. This along with him showcasing the Fela broadway musical, he is the King of late night.

Despite my frustrations with the MTA service cutbacks/budget deficit problem, Ratner trying to destroy Brooklyn with yet another loosing basketball team and our unbelievably useless State Senate, I do love this city.

9/09? Divas? Hip-Hop Honors? Brooklyn?? Yes!!

How in the world did that happen? I can already see the leaves turning brown and falling along the streets of New York. But you’d never guess fall was on its way with the heat wave that just hit us in the past couple of weeks. It felt like the entire city was trapped inside a pressure cooker.

Anyway, I can’t keep apologizing for my lack of blog posts. I’ll just say that it’s been a busy summer with work and event season coming. But don’t worry, I’ve managed to squeeze in some fun times.

My DVR Might Explode

My DVR Might Explode

Now, being that I work in the TV industry, one could say that it is my duty to watch it. One must understand the space they work in in order to function well in it, right. Well, blah blah blah…I’ve been addicted to television since I was a kid and working in it made it that much worse. So yes, I watch/DVR a lot of TV shows. (Please note – I do not watch TV all day, most TV is on DVR so I can FF and make the most of my TV time.)

And of course I pay close attention to the network Upfronts every year. I need to know what I’m going to be in for in the fall & mid-season. That said, this 2009/2010 fall line up is one of the most disappointing to me so far. So many great shows will not be returning or have ended up in a weird time slot which will make my DVR explode in having to choose.
