It’s a LOVELY day in Brooklyn!

It’s a truly lovely day in NYC…it’s above 70 degrees, people are leaving the office early to frolic in the sun, girls are getting pedicures, kids are skipping school…it just doesn’t get better than this. I, with allergy meds in hand, have spent an amazing day walking around my hood sipping iced coffee, lounging on random benches, exploring small parks and dodging strollers.

So in honor of this lovely day…(this is from a Top of the Pops performance in ’88…complete w/ scratching)

Happy Anniversary…to me

Six years ago today, I boarded a JetBlue plane from LAX with a one way ticket and two large suitcases. I was off to make a life in New York City. All but one person in the months preceding tried to convince me not to come here.

You see, NY was still recovering from the WTC events and the economy was in the tank. The US had started bombing Iraq the month before, on the day I bought my one-way ticket. I had no job lined up. I had some savings, a shared sublet in Crown Heights and some impossible feeling that it was going to be OK despite it all.

I love living in Brooklyn. It’s really one of the best places I’ve ever lived (and I’ve lived in many cities). And to show my love, here are a few of my favorite BK-centric blogs. They aren’t the most popular on the interwebs but these give great insight as to what’s going on in the neighborhood.
