Ethrina Loves to Dance

Now, I’ve never ever met anyone else named Ethrina. Though I was teased as a kid because of my name (kids can be so cruel), I appreciated the uniqueness of my name as I got older.

But I googled myself today (you know you do it too), and stumbled upon another little Ethrina. While we may not share the same taste in music, “Ethrina” was surely born to dance! A girl after my own heart.

Crushin…

So if you know me, you know how much I LOVE dancing. I love to watch it, I love to do it. I was a dancer in a former life, I swear it. And of course, I watch almost all the dance shows on TV right now. By far my favorite is So You Think You Can Dance. But a close 2nd is America’s Best Dance Crew. I watch both religiously. My DVR is put to good use on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

In this 2nd season of ABDC, Nor.Cal is represented by Supreme Soul, which is a spin-off group of Soul Sector (big up Mikey Disco). Anyway…while they perhaps aren’t doing the best on the show, I know SS is an amazing group of dancers. Soul Sector has been around for a looong minute and they rep SF to the fullest. They should be proud. And so…I’ve developed a crush on Mitch Sanedrin. He’s frickin’ adorable and he moves like water in the ocean. This clip is him just goofing off, but damn kid…skillz.

I haven’t been this tired from the weekend in a very long time. I was out 3 nights in a row, sleeping very very little. My girls from Toronto were back in town. Zaki was performing at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival and as expected she killed it. While the purpose of the trip was to perform and network to push her EP (Eclectica: Episodes in Purple), it’s always a good excuse for the crew to connect and spend time with each other. Z, T and L are family to me. They are amazing and inspiring and I always have a full heart when I see them.

Growing up, I was tomboy. I had an older brother whose side I was not allowed to leave. So, I was always around his guy friends…all the way to high school. Even in high school, I always got along better with the boys than the girls. I was more into what the boys were into. My career path speaks to this, taking on roles that have been generally dominated by men in industries dominated by men. But by the time I got to college, i had met some amazing females who became my inner-circle aka The Pallies. While I love them all like sisters, I have still always been very different from them.
