Do You Want More?!From Twitter: @gavinpurcell: Maybe the most personally awesome thing yet coming on Monday’s Late Night: The Roots will be backing PUBLIC ENEMY for Bring the Noise!

The New Face Of Late Night – @jimmyfallon

Tonight, another one of SNL’s past cast members officially etched himself into American TV history. Following in the footsteps of previous Late Night hosts, David Letterman and Conan O’Brien is no easy task. You have to bring something to the show that no one else has.

It was a given that Fallon would be nervous during his monologue and even in his first interview with Robert DeNiro. But Jimmy hit his stride when Justin Timberlake came on stage and the two reminisced about their SNL skit “The Barry Gibb Talk Show”. He was at ease and his usual funny self. It reminded me of why I loved him so much on SNL. Why is that important to the overall success of the show? Because he can relate to the younger generation of viewers in a way that the others can’t. Even the audience was noticeably younger and it’s sure to translate in home viewers as well. To be fair, the older demo might not find him as funny or connect with him as well.

Generation Kill

I am constantly amazed at the quality programming that HBO greenlights. Their latest mini-series, “Generation Kill” will no doubt get many statues this upcoming award season. While I’m no big fan of war stories, I am drawn to the personal stories of the Marines on this show. The teleplay, written by Ed Burns (genius!) was adapted from Even Wrights book of the same name. He was the reporter from Rolling Stone that rolled with the 1st Recon Battalion and wrote about these brave souls as they entered the 2nd Iraq War.

Crushin…

So if you know me, you know how much I LOVE dancing. I love to watch it, I love to do it. I was a dancer in a former life, I swear it. And of course, I watch almost all the dance shows on TV right now. By far my favorite is So You Think You Can Dance. But a close 2nd is America’s Best Dance Crew. I watch both religiously. My DVR is put to good use on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

In this 2nd season of ABDC, Nor.Cal is represented by Supreme Soul, which is a spin-off group of Soul Sector (big up Mikey Disco). Anyway…while they perhaps aren’t doing the best on the show, I know SS is an amazing group of dancers. Soul Sector has been around for a looong minute and they rep SF to the fullest. They should be proud. And so…I’ve developed a crush on Mitch Sanedrin. He’s frickin’ adorable and he moves like water in the ocean. This clip is him just goofing off, but damn kid…skillz.

The Loneliness is Palpable

I was watching reruns of Sex and the City the other day…the episode where Carrie meets Berger for the first time right before her book party. She is obsessing over him, but he has a GF. The context of the story wasn’t so much that she wanted to be with Berger, but that she wanted to be with someone. “The loneliness is palpable” she says.

How many of us feel that way. Of course our lives are too busy to think about this on a regular basis. Or maybe we make ourselves so busy that we don’t have time to think about our own loneliness hence creating what could be a vicious cycle. I admit, I’m guilty of this. I get so busy with my work that I don’t often have time to meet new people or date. And when I take the time to slow down, i find myself feeling that loneliness and need to find something else to fill the space. Of course I spend time with my friends, but I’m finding them pairing up more and more these days. So of course, it reminds me that I am not paired up and it drives me back to work.
